Marienglashöhle in Germany
In this former mine, in which plaster was mined from 1778 to 1903, you will learn a lot about the origin of the Thuringian Forest and the mining around Friedrichroda. Geological windows to the right and left in the walls of the 110m long entrance tunnel allow a view of the occurring rock layers. The Crystal Cave in the Marienglashöhle was discovered in 1778 and is considered one of the most beautiful and largest in Europe. Here you can see gypsum crystals up to 90 cm in length. In the lower sole is the cave lake with charming water reflections.
